Over at Catholic Herald, Fr. Raymond de Souza has published an article about Pope Ven. Pius XII not calling an Ecumenical Council. The recent opening of the archives of the first 10 years of Pius’ pontificate was the occasion for Fr. de Souza’s article.
Because of my research with Fátima, I have an abiding interest in Pius XII. Some time ago, I published a brief blog post about the book The Godmother by Fr. Charles Murr.* In this book, Murr, Mother Pascalina’s godson, revealed the reason why Pius XII did not call an Ecumenical Council.
Fr. Murr says that Mother Pascalina told him that, in fact, Pius XII had prepared everything for a Council. Ultimately, however, he judged the bishops not to be sufficiently mature to carry out a Council.
I wonder if the archives will verify this statement? Time will tell!
