Hello Everyone! This post is the first entry to introduce my video series responding to Taylor Marshall and Timothy Gordon on Fátima. I announced the series here on the site recently.
In September of 2018, Marshall and Gordon made a podcast entitled Third Secret of Fatima & the Smoke of Satan in the Church. I was quite interested to see the direction in which they took the discussion. There were good points during the podcast. There were also some questionable moments.
A relatively little-known aspect of the history of Our Lady’s apparitions in Fátima, Portugal concerns a comment made to Sr. Lúcia about a “seventh” apparition. On May 13, 1917, in her first apparition to the three shepherd children, Our Lady stated, “I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at this same hour. Later on, I will tell you who I am and what I want. Afterwards, I will return here yet a seventh time.”[i] Has this seventh apparition already occurred? We shall look at this matter presently.
A kind friend sent to me a copy of the Portuguese text of a prayer that will be said by Pope Francis in his upcoming pilgrimage to Fátima. I present the Portuguese with an unofficial English translation (courtesy of Marco da Vinha).
Catholic News Service has a nice article on Cardinal Saraiva Martins and the last three Popes with respect to Fátima. I encourage you to read it.
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Recent popes have had a special affection for Our Lady of Fatima, but no pope’s connection can match that of St. John Paul II.
“We cannot forget that he was saved by Our Lady of Fatima from the assassination attempt here in St. Peter’s. This is fundamental and central. It is never forgotten,” Portuguese Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, former prefect of the Congregation for Saints’ Causes, told Catholic News Service March 29.
It is my honor to announce that I will be presenting a paper at the upcoming Thinking Fatima Congress at the Sanctuary of Fátima this June 21-24, 2017.
The title of my paper is On Imaginary Visions in the Theological Commentary of Cardinal Ratzinger.
If you are able to make it, please do come and listen. There are many excellent talks that will be at this Congress. Not all are available in English, especially the individual language-group presentations. Nevertheless, there are plenty of bi-lingual people who are quite kind and may be willing to discuss summaries of the presentations with others.
The Congress will be a month after the canonization of Blesseds Francisco & Jacinta. I shall pray for all of you at their tombs.
