Hello! A quick clarifying note about my Bella Dodd book.
During the course of her lectures, Bella discussed one way that people could be identified as communists back in her time. That way was to see if the suspected persons would say anything bad about the Soviet Union.
Of course, this method is no longer applicable today.
That said, I did make a connection in my book between the Metz Agreement* and what Bella said. I am not saying anything about the indefectibility of the Church (I fully believe she is indefectible). Bella’s discourse here cannot be construed into questioning the legitimacy of the Council or the Church’s indefectibility.
So, to be clear, I am not questioning the indefectibility of the Church (neither was Bella), nor am I saying it was an illegitimate Council. Rather, I was making a historical parallel to that part of Bella’s discourse with what we now know happened at Vatican II concerning the treatment of communism.
*This agreement was made between the Soviet Union and Pope St. John XXIII to have two Russian Orthodox observers at Vatican II. In return, the Council would say nothing negative about communism.
