Fátima and Apostasy: An Addendum

Hello Everyone! Spirit Daily linked to my Fátima and Apostasy article and a lot of attention has been drawn to the article. Michael Lewis issued a clarification under his article, and I also noted that Terry Nelson of Abbey Roads web site wrote a blog post in reply.

I have been in communication with both gentlemen in order to clarify one or two details. I am very grateful for their kind and generous spirit in their responses (public or private).

I would like to reiterate something that I said at the end of my interview at Catholic World Report:

In the end, theologians and scholars, not polemicists and sensationalists, must take Our Lady’s call at Fatima and interpret it in the light of our great tradition. This requires humility and openness to God’s grace, whereas sensationalism stokes the very distrust of the Church that runs absolutely contrary to the message of Fatima.

Let us be careful not to engage in wishful thinking, or to continue using the third part of the secret of Fátima as a bludgeon against the Holy See. Lewis is correct in this point. With Terry Nelson, I agree that if we spent more time doing what Our Lady asked of us, we’d be much better off than we are now.
