Cardinal Muller References Bishop Peric’s Statement on Medjugorje

Over at Lettera43, Cardinal Muller (the Prefect of the CDF) has referenced in an interview the recent comments from Bishop Peric on Medjugorje.

In Italiano:

In English:

“These are not true apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” reiterated Msgr. Peric. Cardinal Mueller does not comment on these allegations, but stressed: “I know that the local Church has made this decision. In any case, we have to say that the future of the Church does not depend” either on Medjugorje or “from known shrines such as Fátima or Lourdes: they help, they can help you make more present the message of repentance to the world of today” but the faith is the one that you live in daily life “in the family, at work, in the parish.”

The Cardinal does not comment on the merits of the statement. Meanwhile, Cardinal Muller seems to lament that there is too much hype (troppe esagerazioni) on Medjugorje.

ENGLISH NOW AVAILABLE.

More as it develops. For now, a basic summary is in order.

Peric begins by recalling the image of the Church as the pillar and bulwark of the truth, followed by the basic fact of all the commissions established to examine the “Medjugorje Phenomenon.” Recalling these, he then states that the position of the Diocese of Mostar-Duvno is that Medjugorje is not a place where Our Lady is appearing (non si tratta di vere apparizioni della Beata Vergine Maria).
